About Will Baird
Prior to retiring from active touring, for over 25 years Will Baird entertained thousands of listeners as an opening act for artists such as Tracy Chapman and Livingston Taylor, as well as at hundreds of other settings.

Today, Will provides calming music to help patients relax before chemotherapy treatment at the Mass General Brigham Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.  It was there that he saw the effect of music on anxiety in a medical setting.  This recognition led him to create The Relaxing Earth.

The Cancer Center: An Awakening
“I would come into the silent waiting room and the first thing I noticed was feet jiggling, hands clasped tightly, and several people typically chattering loudly, which seemed inappropriate in a room of two dozen silent people”, Will says. “All were signs of anxiety.”

“After about 30 minutes, the jiggling feet were still, hands were open, and the room had fallen silent as people retreated into another place.  As they left after treatment, patients would thank me, sometimes mentioning that they had been anxious but that the music had eased their worry.”

“Then the nurses started commenting that the patients were easier to treat when they were relaxed by the music.  Patients' listening skills were better, they were in a more positive mood, and even small technical tasks like starting a IV became easier.  This resulted in what I was told was a change in the nursing team's mood as well."

“At that point I decided to create the Relaxed Earth.  If music alone can have such benefits in a medical setting, think of how powerful adding a visual component would be?”
